Hi my name is Deb.

I’d like to teach you about a really cool tool that can help bring some magic into your classroom, Chrome Extensions.

Extensions are small software programs that you can add to your Google Chrome browser that are super easy to access and can certainly enhance your teaching.

If you don’t use Google Chrome, it’s an easy download. Navigate over to the Chrome store. Once you’re there, you can narrow down the category.

Here is a link that will bring you right to the specific extensions and apps for teachers.

When you find the extension you like, it’s a piece of cake to install.

I’m going to download Screencastify.

First, click Add to Chrome, then Add Extension. Once installed, you will find the extension living to the right of the address bar in Chrome.

Here are a few of our favorite extensions for teachers.

Select and Speak—this tool uses human-like voices to read any selected text that you see in Google Chrome. You can set different types of voices, different languages, and different rates of speech. This is a great tool for foreign language teachers or auditory learners. The only thing you want to make sure is that your students have a set of headphones.

Grammarly— this is one of my favorites. Of course, many of us rely on spellcheck. Grammarly takes it one step further. It helps with your spelling and your punctuation. Anytime you are composing within the Google Chrome browser, Grammarly will be hard at work. There is nothing worse than sending an email to a parent with a punctuation or spelling error. Grammarly can help.
