Credit Conversion
1 Teaching Channel with Learners Edge graduate level, continuing education credit = 1 graduate semester hour
Each Teaching Channel with Learners Edge 3-credit course requires approximately 45 hours for course completion.
Nebraska teachers must have recent teaching experience or college credits to renew their teaching certificate. Listed below are two options to meet the renewal requirement for educators with current certificates or certificates that have expired within the past 5 years:
- Submit the Verification of Experience Form indicating teaching for one (1) year within the immediate past five (5) years half time (50%) or more in a legally operated school system while holding or qualifying to hold a regular teaching certificate.
or
- Have completed six (6) graduate semester hours in education or your content area, within the immediate past five (5) years while holding or qualified to hold a teaching certificate that has not expired or has expired for less than five (5) years.
- Complete six graduate semester hours by choosing two 3-credit graduate level, continuing education courses at Teaching Channel with Learners Edge.

Advance to a Professional Certificate
Nebraska teachers can advance their certificate to a Professional (10-year) certificate. To do so, applications must have a qualifying Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Technology, Special Education, or in the applicant’s content area. Educators can also advance after earning a six year Specialist’s or Doctorate degree in an area related to the applicant’s content area completed at the Master’s degree level.
Administrator Renewal
Listed below are three options to meet the renewal requirement for administrators with current certificates or certificates that have expired within the past 5 years:
- Within five (5) years of application, have administered half-time or more for one (1) school year.
or
- Within five (5) years prior to application, have been employed as a faculty member in the educator preparation program of a standard institution of higher education or worked for the department of education.
or
- Within five (5) years of application have received six (6) semester hours of graduate credit in areas related to Educational Administration or Educational Leadership from a standard institution of higher education.
