Reporting Your Teaching Channel Course Completion
The process for reporting completed coursework depends on whether you completed a SCECH-approved course or a graduate-level continuing education credit-based course.
SCECH-Approved Course Completion
After successfully completing a SCECH-approved course, Teaching Channel will guide you through the reporting process.
Step 1: Complete the SCECH Reporting For
Within one business day of course completion, you will receive an email from Teaching Channel containing a SCECH completion form. Please complete this in full at your earliest convenience.
Important: To receive SCECHs in the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS), you must have both:
- A Personnel Identification Code (PIC) number
- An active MOECS account
Educators who do not have a PIC number will receive a Certificate of Completion but cannot be awarded SCECHs in MOECS.
Step 2: Teaching Channel Reports Your SCECHs
Once you submit the completion form, Teaching Channel will enter your SCECH hours into MOECS on your behalf.
After your hours have been entered, you will receive 2 emails:
- An email confirmation from Teaching Channel
- An email with Instructions for reflection completion from MOECS
Step 3: Accept Your SCECHs in MOECS
After receiving confirmation from Teaching Channel, log in to your MOECS account to:
- Review your pending SCECHs
- Complete the required course reflection
- Accept the SCECH hours
Your SCECHs will not be fully awarded until you complete this final step in MOECS.
Graduate-Level Continuing Education Credit Course Completion
If you completed a graduate-level continuing education credit course, you are responsible for submitting proof of completion for certificate renewal.
Step 1: Request Your Official Transcript
Request an official transcript from the University Partner associated with your Teaching Channel course.
As grades are posted, your University Partner will provide information about accessing and ordering transcripts.
Step 2: Submit Your Transcript
Upload your official transcript to MOECS and follow any additional instructions required by the Michigan Department of Education.
Important: Teaching Channel does not report graduate-level credit-based course completions to MOECS. Official transcripts must be obtained directly from your University Partner.
For more information on renewal requirements, visit the MDE website.
Why You Should Enroll in Courses as a Long-Term Investment
In many districts, teachers gain a salary increase when they accrue graduate-level credits. But have you considered the money you leave on the table when you delay accruing those credits?
Teachers who gain an extra $8K in salary 20 years before retirement bring home an extra $160K in earnings. And those teachers may also receive a higher pension by finishing their careers at an advance salary level. Compare that to the educator who achieves that goal 10 years later: $80K less income. See what credit accrual could mean for you by using our salary calculator. Be sure to check our course bundles that let you accrue credits at less cost and on a pay-as-you-learn plan.
