For educators of all grades and subject areas, this course aims to unpack the body of research known as the “Science of Reading” and provides specific evidence-based strategies for teaching reading. Learn how reading develops in the brain, review a framework for explicit, systematic and sequential instruction, and explore the 8 strands of Scarborough’s Reading Rope.

What is Teaching Channel with Learners Edge?
Teaching Channel with Learners Edge a one-stop shop for teacher learning and development. It is an online platform to take classes for salary advancement, relicensure, and/or obtaining a master’s degree. There are hundreds of courses to choose from. They also offer many free resources for teachers in their new K12 Hub.
Do we have to take the same classes?
No! You can take whatever classes you want/need to. They have a wide variety, so go online and check them out!
How do I get my classes approved? How do I move on the salary schedule?
There is a google form to complete on the district website (For Staff, Professional Development, Graduate Coursework) to complete for class approval. Unit 5 will send out emails at the start of each semester about movement on the salary schedule.
I have a friend who is not on your email list, can they use the code?
Yes, give the code to anyone who is interested! Just have them get in touch with me so I can make sure they get future emails.
How will I know what discount I will get?
The Unit 5 group usually gets the maximum discount, which is $115 per course (20 or more people must register for a course to get this discount). If you want to see the full group discount breakdown, you can click here. When you register, you will pay 50% of your registration fee. After the group closes and they know what the group discount is, they will apply the group discount to your remaining balance.
Are they still doing the free 1-credit course?
Yes, they are! Groups of 6 or more members will qualify to receive a free 1-credit course from Teaching Channel.
What university do I pick when registering?
If you are using the credits for your teaching license, you will need to pick a university in Illinois (Roosevelt University or Greenville University). If you are not using it for your teaching license, you can pick whichever university is the cheapest.
Where do I enter my group code?
When checking out there will be a place to put in your group code. DO NOT put it in the promo code box, it will not work.
