Valentine’s Day is a fun time to be a kid and a teacher! You may already be planning Valentine’s Day arts and crafts projects with your students, but why not incorporate Valentine’s Day activities into all subjects and grades?

### Math

#### VALENTINE’S PATTERN BLOCK MATS

This free printout for ages 3-5 is a great way to “teach kids about shapes, counting, sorting, reasoning, symmetry… even fractions” with a special Valentine’s Day twist.

#### SLOPE INTERCEPT HEART PENNANT

Teach your 7th-10th graders about the slope-intercept formula with this Valentine’s-themed activity. You can even make it a class competition to see which groups can graph or find the slope-intercept and decorate your classroom with heart pennants the fastest!

### Science

#### LOVE POTION EXPERIMENT

For younger kids, let them get hands-on with glitter to create their own love potion! You can encourage your class to make predictions, observe, and form hypotheses as they experiment with different formulas.

#### CATAPULTS AND CANDY STEM CHALLENGE

Add some heart to your STEM challenges by asking your students (grades 3-8) to design a candy catapult. With this activity, students engage in the work of engineers as they design, build, and test their own heart-throwing machines.

### ELA

#### SPELLING HEARTS

Practice spelling, sight words, word families, and more with this adorable heart spelling game. All you need are cutout hearts and Scrabble tiles, and you’re ready to get started!

#### THE HISTORY OF VALENTINE’S DAY CLOSE READING

This close-reading activity for grades 7-10 engages students in a text-based reading on “the mysterious history of Saint Valentine the martyr.” Applicable for cross-curricular lessons (history, religious studies, etc.), this rigorous activity is divided into manageable chunks and includes follow-up questions for each section.

What better time than Valentine’s Day to teach your students about kindness? You can build a kindness tree in your classroom or challenge students to the Kindness Game.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
