Study Title: Study of Teachers’ Experience in the Field

Protocol #: 6707

Please read this study information sheet carefully before you decide to participate in the study.

Purpose of the research study: The purpose of the study is to gain understanding of the experience of teaching.

What you will do in the study:

You will be asked to participate in an online survey. You can skip any question and can stop the survey at any time. If you decide to stop the survey, your data will be deleted and you will no longer be a participant in the study.

Upon completion of the survey, you will be invited to participate in an optional, voluntary 30-minute interview on Zoom at a later date, which will be recorded and transcribed.

Time required: Completing the survey will require about 9 minutes of your time. If you agree to participate in the interview, it will require about 30 minutes of your time.

Risks: There are no anticipated risks in this study.

Benefits: There are no direct benefits to you for participating in this research study.  The study may help us understand the experiences of teachers, particularly related to their sense of autonomy in the profession.

Confidentiality:

The information that you give in the study will be handled confidentially.  Your information will be assigned a code number and a code name.  The list connecting your name to this code will be kept in a dual password encrypted folder in a secure cloud-based server. All recorded data will be transferred to a dual password encrypted folder, transcribed, then immediately deleted from the recording device. When the study is completed and the data has been analyzed, this list and any recordings in the secure server will be destroyed.  The deidentified data may be merged into a larger dataset. Your name will not be used in any report.

Voluntary participation: Your participation in the study is completely voluntary.

Right to withdraw from the study: You have the right to withdraw from the study at any time without penalty.   Any notes or interview recordings will be destroyed should you decide to withdraw.

How to withdraw from the study: If you want to withdraw from the study prior to compilation of the survey, simply do not complete the survey and your data will be destroyed. Because the data are not connected to your identity, you cannot withdraw after you submit your data.

Payment: You will receive no payment for participating in the study. To thank you for your time, upon completion of the survey, you will be invited to enter a drawing for one of ten $100 Amazon gift certificates.

Using data beyond this study: Data for this study may be made available for other studies beyond the original study. The researchers would like to make the information collected in this study available to other researchers after the study is completed. The researchers will remove any identifying information (such as your name, contact information, etc.) connected to the information you provide. The researchers will share all of the information collected in this study (not just your individual file) with other researchers for future research studies, including but not limited to follow up studies.  The researchers of future studies will not ask your permission for each new study.  Other researchers will not have access to your name and other information that could potentially identify you nor will they attempt to identify you.
