Digging into STEM Educator Diversity

April 23, 2019 / by Cherry Thompson

Are you, or someone you know, working to decrease the diversity gap in STEM education?

We know that students benefit from having diversity in the teacher workforce. However, it can be challenging to recruit and retain future STEM teachers from underrepresented groups.

The 100Kin10 Diversifying the STEM Teacher Pipeline Project Team is curating information and resources about how current programs, organizations, and education institutions are directly engaged in the recruitment, preparation, and retention of pre-service teachers to diversify the STEM teacher workforce. The Project Team will utilize the data they collect to share ideas and practices that address the historically underrepresented groups in STEM teaching.

Do you have some information to share on recruiting or supporting future STEM teachers? Please take this 6-8 minute survey and share the link with others. The first 30 respondents will receive a $5 Starbucks gift card.

The 100Kin10 project team consists of educators from Tch, MA Dept. of Higher Education, UC Santa Barbara, Purdue University- Center for Advancing the Teaching and Learning of STEM (CATALYST), National Center for Teacher Residencies, University System of Maryland, and Governors University. Together, they are working to gain insight and input from programs that are actively supporting efforts to reduce STEM educator diversity gaps.

Thank you in advance for your time and input! Be on the lookout for more from the Diversifying the STEM Teacher Pipeline team.
