Goals and Objectives of this Course:

• Use prompts about reading instruction in upper elementary, to describe assumptions and insights of practitioners, researchers and self, including how the information relates to professional education practice and growth.
• Design a text set on a content area topic to support the building of background knowledge.
• Build a weekly, collaborative fluency routine to facilitate development in rate, expression and prosody.
• Develop an action plan to make your independent reading time more meaningful with scaffolds, partner work, variation, and renewed purpose.
• Challenge the status quo by designing a lesson that replaces repetitive strategy instruction with one of the Six Strategic Thinking Moves for comprehension.
