Using Clipboards for Informal Assessment

A simple way to manage everyday student progress is to keep a clipboard stocked with pre-printed formative assessment sheets. These sheets can include your class list or class groups, along with space to add notes about lessons, goals, or skills, and you can modify the format to fit your needs!

During busy moments in class—work time, group time, etc.—just grab your clipboard and jot down notes as you need them! You can keep track of great student comments you want to discuss later, misconceptions you plan to re-teach, or any other notes that will help you assist students and target future lessons. Instead of relying on memory alone, use your clipboard to wrap up the lesson or plan for the following day. Take a look at this simple yet effective strategy in action in the video!

Reflection Question:
What kind of notes can you take on a clipboard to improve teaching and learning in your classroom?
