Assess and Plan with Exit Tickets

Exit Tickets are a great way to quickly gauge student understanding at the end of a lesson. Before students move to the next subject, they respond to a question to demonstrate their knowledge or confidence in the material – often on a small sheet of paper. These exit tickets give teachers a snapshot of how well students have understood the day’s lesson, so they can tell where to begin the next day. Exit tickets should be short: ask students one or two questions (or “prompts”) about the lesson.

Keep in mind exit tickets are not tests and shouldn’t be graded. Remind your students of this, too, so they understand their purpose and feel comfortable completing them. Exit tickets are valuable assessments that let you know how your students are doing and how your lessons are impacting students each day, too!

Reflection Question:
How can you use exit tickets to help plan future lessons?
