At Insight ADVANCE our priority is to help educators grow and we believe utilizing video for self-reflection, peer feedback and instructional coaching is a game-changer in facilitating that growth. “Sit and get” professional development does not work, but the research proves coaching DOES, and video coaching provides flexibility for those necessary, frequent coaching opportunities.
We share our outlook with many educators who are advocating for video, including Claire Gogolen.
As the program manager of the MQI Coaching program at Harvard’s Center for Education Policy Research, I spend my days immersed in instructional coaching. I’m also a member of the Visibly Better Advisory Board. At Visibly Better we strive to help educators use video as a tool to continuously improve instruction and observational feedback. Over the past ten years, I’ve been using video of instruction in both research and professional development contexts, and these experiences have shown me just how powerful video is as a tool for impacting educators’ growth. I believe it’s a tool all educators can benefit from.
If you’re on the fence about using video, or if you’re simply interested in learning more, I encourage you to check out my five reasons why educators should use video below.
