Renew Your Certificate
Six semester hours of renewal credit are required to renew your certificate.

1 Teaching Channel with Learners Edge graduate level, continuing education credit = 1 semester hour of renewal credit
Each Teaching Channel with Learners Edge 3-credit course requires approximately 45 hours for course completion.

5 or 10 Year Certificate Renewal
Alaska certificates that are at least 5 years in duration are renewable certificates. Renewable certificates may be renewed one year prior to its expiration date. The following types of certificates may be renewed or reinstated.
- Professional Teacher
- Master Teacher
- Administrative Type-B Regular
- Special Service Providers Type-C Regular
During the life of the certificate being renewed, applicants must complete:
- Six semester hours of renewal credit; and
The six renewal credits must be related to or required for:
- The certificated person’s employment at the time of renewal, if the employment requires a certificate;
- The certificated person’s endorsements, or
- A state-approved preparation program that will lead to an endorsement that the certificated person seeks to acquire.
At least three of the renewal credits must be upper division or graduate credit. The remaining three renewal credits may be upper division credit, lower division credit, continuing education units or non-academic credit.
