Video Blogs Task boxes are an excellent tool to use with students with mild to severe disabilities who are working on transition skills for home or work. Additionally, task boxes can increase independence as the teacher or assistant can begin to fade prompting and cueing as the student develops the skills needed to complete the task.

Hi. My name is Keely from Learners Edge, and I’m here to talk to you today about task boxes, which are sometimes called work boxes.
These are great for students who have disabilities and are moving from high school and transitioning into adulthood, where they may need to build their job skills, their independence, and maybe even their home living skills.
I’ve created a couple of task boxes here for you to take a peek at.
This one is just very simple sorting. The student just takes the plastic silverware, purchased at the dollar store, and sorts them into the different baskets.
And for this one, which is another one, this is typically for students with lower cognitive abilities. And all they’re asked to do is to take the clothespin and place it into the bin. Sometimes, the students might need some hand over hand assistance, but eventually they should become a bit more independent with that task as well.
