3 Ways to Practice Student Goal Setting

Motivate students to improve their skills with goal-setting. The strategies in this next video can be used to help students set both academic and personal goals. In the first activity, students discuss their goals with individuals and as a group before finally writing and reflecting on these goals in a personal journal. In the second activity, students set goals together as a class and record them on a poster to serve as a reminder throughout the year. Peer feedback can also be used as a way to set goals! In the final activity, students provide feedback on other students’ writing, and the writers use that feedback to set their own revision goals. This final activity is such an empowering one since students have the opportunity to help each other grow!
