Lavinia Group RISE Summer Learning Program (Tested and proven during COVID!)

Leveraging best practices for professional development, instruction, and technology, Lavinia Group will partner with select networks and districts this summer to implement our RISE Summer Learning Program. The program, which can be taught virtually or in-person, will ensure that:

  • The maximum number of students possible begin the year on grade level
  • Teachers and leaders have the tools to mitigate learning loss
  • Schools have simple but effective data systems in place to monitor student progress on a daily and weekly basis
  • Schools have the opportunity to participate in Lavinia Group’s proven professional development structures to support and rapidly develop leaders and teachers
  • Students have access to high-quality, multicultural, and standards-aligned curriculum this summer

Jackie Taslim

Chief Program Officer

A former Managing Director at Success Academy Charter Schools, Jackie oversaw 10 schools, managing instruction, leader and teacher development, and daily school operations. Previously Jackie was principal of the network’s flagship K-6 school, which was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School under her leadership. She also received the Blackboard Principal of the Year Award in 2012. 


Khari Shabazz

Instructional consultant

Khari is a mission-driven and accomplished professional with expertise in professional development and instructional and people management. He’s especially effective in capacity building, identifying and multiplying talent, program management, and developing and delivering training content. He is widely recognized for his advanced skill sets in leadership, innovation, and driving positive culture change while cultivating key relationships at all organizational levels and with a wide variety of clientele.


Julie Pockros

Julia is an experienced teacher, curriculum writer, and instructional leader passionate about improving equitable outcomes for all students. Julia began her career in education as a 4th grade literacy teacher in Washington D.C. where she led her students to achieve exceptional growth – 85% of her students were proficient on the PARCC exam, compared to 38% statewide. She has since worked in public charter schools achieving excellent results for kids in New Orleans, Washington D.C., and Detroit.
