The next time students turn in an assignment, complete a project, or create a work of art, ask them to share their “shining moment”. This shining moment is the thing they are most proud of in their work—the difficulty they overcame, the concept they finally got in the process, the work that brought them to the next level of learning. Students can jot their shining moment at the bottom of the assignment rubric, on an exit slip, or on the assignment itself.
This chance to self-assess their work before they submit is a great opportunity to reflect on the process of learning and makes it more likely students will replicate those successes the next time they engage in the task. Help your students shine with this quick self-assessment activity!
