Teaching Channel Talks 41: Creating Classroom Connections

Learn from the research of the Teach Like a Champion team as Wendy Amato interviews Doug Lemov and Hilary Lewis about the most important lessons from the 20/21 school year. Our Guests

Doug Lemov is a managing director of Uncommon Schools and leads its Teach Like a Champion team, designing and implementing teacher training based on the study of high-performing teachers. He is the author of Teach Like a Champion 2.0 and coauthor of Practice Perfect.

Hilary Lewis is the Senior Director of Consulting and Partnerships on the Teach Like a Champion team with Uncommon Schools. Hilary began her career in education as a first-grade teacher and later became a founding Dean of Students and Families at an elementary school in Brooklyn, New York. On the TLAC team, Hilary develops content, facilitates workshops, and provides direct support to schools in the US and abroad. Hilary is a contributing author on Doug Lemov’s new book: Teaching in the Online Classroom: Surviving and Thriving in the New Normal.

Our Host

Dr. Wendy Amato earned her Master’s in Education and Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Virginia. She holds an MBA from James Madison University. Wendy began teaching in 1991, has served as a Middle School Administrator, and still teaches at UVA’s School of Education. She has delivered teacher professional development workshops and student leadership workshops in the US and internationally. Wendy and her family live near Charlottesville, Virginia.
