Teresa Chin is a Senior Digital Producer at Youth Radio. She works with young people to create audio, visual, and print stories for a variety of national outlets. Her work has appeared in numerous media outlets, including National Public Radio, Teen Vogue, and The New York Times. Prior to becoming a journalist, she worked as a high school math and science teacher, a public health professional, an associate Photoshop professor, and a freelance science writer. Elisabeth (Lissa) Soep is Senior Editor and Innovation Lab Founding Director at Youth Radio, the youth-driven production company and national network of next-generation journalism from across urban, suburban, and rural America. The Youth Radio stories Lissa has produced and/or edited have been recognized with honors, including two Peabody Awards, three Murrow Awards, an Investigative Reporters and Editors Award, the Third Coast International Audio Festival Impact Award, and the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award. Outlets for these stories include NPR, The New York Times, and Teen Vogue. With a Ph.D. from Stanford University’s School of Education, Lissa has written about digital media and learning for academic journals (Harvard Ed Review), popular outlets (NPR, Boing Boing), and books including Youthscapes (with Maira, UPenn Press), Drop that Knowledge (with Chávez, UC Press), and Participatory Politics (MIT Press). With Asha Richardson, she co-founded Youth Radio’s Innovation Lab, now an NSF-backed partnership with MIT and Cornell Tech. In 2011, she became one of six members of the MacArthur Foundation’s Youth and Participatory Politics Research Network, which explores how young people are using digital and social media to express civic voice and agency. For more than ten years, Lissa served on the Board of Directors of the United States’ premier youth poetry organization, Youth Speaks (HBO series, 2009 & 2010).
